NYC Upward Mobiity
A view of one of the skyscraper towers of the new Hudson Yards section of New York City with the interactive art sculpture-structure "The Vessel" in the foreground. As I looked at the photograph after uploading to my computer I couldn't help but muse about the contrasts and similarities between the two architecture marvels. On The Vessel, the sixteen story climbable centerpiece of the Hudson Yards public park, people are climbing upward for fun, for the experience and to see the view from the top. Within the buildings, which hold residences, office space, retail stores and eateries, people are climbing and striving to new, better, higher places in the monetary, status, career layers of their life. The caution, if you look closely at the metal layers of The Vessel, the people and their climb are reflected and a bit distorted, as can happen in real life when we lose perspective of where we are going and why.
