Day 63: St. Michael the Archangel Church - Mar 4. St. Michael's, located in Union City NJ, is a designated state and historic place. It opened as a monastery in 1869 on the 12.3 acre site and was the largest Roman Catholic church parish in Hudson County. Due to lack of finances to support the complex, it was closed in 1981. In 1994, a fire destroyed much of the monastery section of the complex. Eventually, parts of the complex were sold and currently there is a sports field and condomiiniums on the bulk of the property and the church itself was sold to a Korean Presbyterian congregation.
