Day 269: Hosta Leaves - Sept 30.

Day 269: GW Bridge and trees. Don't know what to title this. An overcast day today which brought out the colors in the tree leaves but made the bridge in the background very muted. I liked the effect. Any tree identification experts out there - are these ash trees?

Day 268: Mums in Bluetonel - Sept 28. For today's Blue Challenge for Prostate Cancer.

Day 267: Fall Foliage Maple Leaves - Sept 27. My first fall image for this year and hopefully it will just be a coming attraction of more scenes to come. Took a ride the southwest countryside in N.J. today to check out the status of the fall foliage and was very surprised at how much color there is in the trees this early. Last year I did not begin to get fall foliage images until the last week in October. Unfortunately, it appeared as though the leaves were dropping quickly after beginning the color change. It will be interesting to see how the color develops. I'm hoping to find some spots in the next weeks with scenic views where one can get off the road and capture the magnitude of the layers of colors.

Day 266: American Lady Butterfly - Sept 26. Interesting to watch this pretty creature. It preferred to stay in the shady undergrowth of the butterfly bush but always found a spot where the sun poked through the shade to spread its wings and absorb the heat.

Day 265 Purple Asters - Sept 25.

Day 264 Monarch Butterfly - Sept 24. Another beautiful Monarch butterfly spotted in the NJ Meadowlands park yesterday. He was certainly hard to miss way on top of a butterfly bush against the bright blue sky.

Day 263 Yellow Chrysanthemums - Sept 23. A shot of a cluster of blooms from a yellow chrysanthemum plant taken yesterday. So far it seems as though the yellows are the predominant color blooming. Looking forward to seeing the pinks and rusts and other colors.

Day 262 Farm Market Display - Sept 22. A feast for the eye and the tummy at our Sunday Farmer's Market yesterday. Seems like yesterday that I was photographing and enjoying the first strawberries of the summer and all of a sudden no more summer fruits - fall is here. Apples, pumpkins, squash soon to be the stars of the market.

Day 261: NY Skyline Morning Fog - Sept 21. An unusual blue-tinged fog for a short time this morning, then it turned to plain old gray fog. Thanks to all those who commented on my Monarch butterfly and abtract images from the past two days.

Day 260: City Lights Abstract - Sept 20. No chance for photo time yesterday until very late at night. This is a shot of city lights with camera movement and then mirrored in PS.

Day 259: Monarch Butterfly - Sept 19. Its the time of the year when the last generation of the summer Monarch butterflies begin their migratory flight south for the winter. The number of Monarchs seen this year has declined quite a lot with more and more warnings being published about the dangers to the remaining population and the pleas for people to plant milkweed plants in their yards and public places. The Monarchs lay their eggs exclusively on the milkweed plants and then feed from them as they go through their development cycle. Milkweeds plants are being destroyed by overdevelopment and pesticide use. With this food, the fear is that the Monarch butterfly will become extinct.

Day 258: Clouds and Reflections - Sept 18. Pretty clouds and reflections at high tide in the N.J. Meadowlands yesterday.

Day 257: NYSkylineSundown - Sept 17. Amazing sundown skies last night after a rainy morning.

Day 256: Tri-colored Mums - Sept 16. Love these prettypastel mums when I saw them - so delicate looking compared to the bold, bright oranges, yellows and other fall colors.

Day 255: Farm Market Peppers - Sept 15.

Day 254: Yellow Chrysanthemums - Sept 14. Fall is definitely in the air in New Jersey. Feels more like the end of October. Beautiful and sunny but jacket weather.

Day 253: NYSkyline at Sunrise - Sept 13. Trouble sleeping due to pinched nerve or something in my neck so was up early and discovered a beautiful sunrise sky. Was able to get out and get a shot of the Carnival Splendor cruise ship as it was reaching its Hudson River berth. The weather deteriorated quickly and its been rain and clouds all day here.

Day 252: The NYC Tribute in Lights - Sept 12. The view from Liberty State Park in New Jersey last night (Sept 11) as the sunset came to a close and the twin blue beams of the 9/11 Anniversary Tribute of Lights began to light up the evening sky. Thanks to everyone who commented on my post yesterday, especially those who were kind enought to read my article.

Day 251: The NYC Tribute in Lights - Sept 11. The twin blue beams of the World Trade Center Memorial Tribute in Lights were lit briefly last night on the eve of the anniversary of the Sept 11 attacks. In this view, looking south down the Hudson River toward lower Manhattan, the two beams are aligned so it appears that there is only one. The beams combined with low cloud cover created an usual effect for a night shot as the bright lights from the buildings were bounced into the clouds. Tonight the lights will go on at dark and remain on all night until dawn.
