Day 031: A Light Abstract - January 31 Took a lunch break yesterday with a friend and was fascinated by the lighting setup in the restaurant - took out my camera and got a few shots of a section of the lights. Wish I had taken more at various angles. No post processing to get the effect - SOOC.

Day 030: Frozen Falls - January 30 Decided to take a detour yesterday after finsihing a shopping chore to see what the Great Falls looked like in Paterson, N.J witih all of the cold weather that we've been having. Just had time for a quick shot before I had to head back home.

Day 029: NYC - One World Trade Center - Sundown - January 29. Sundown light on One World Trade Center and other buildings of lower Manhattan as the sun set to the west.

Day 028: NYC Superbowl XLVIII Team Colors - January 28. Empire State Building lit with the colors of the two teams of Superbowl XLVIII.

Day 027: Camouflage - January 27. A noontime run for a duck or canada goose photo op yeilded neither. Just this group of gulls chilling out on the ice and snow.

Day 026: B-Day Sunglasses and Shadow - January 26. Couldn't decide which of two images that I wanted to post for alphabet day today - so I posted both.

Day 026: Beach Bag - January 26. For alphabet day today, the sunglasses depict the letter B. The ongoing frigiid wether here has me daydreaming about sunny days and trips to the beach so I set up this photo. Thanks for all of the woderfully supportive comments posted for my image yesterday.

Day 025: NY Skyline Building Detail at Sundown. - January 25. I am always mesmerized by how the building details, form and colors are transformed as the light changes throughout the day.

Day 024: NY Skyline Sundown - River Ice. - January 24. Another skyline - this one a beautiful, crisp sundown today with ice along the river edge. Bogged down with household stuff the past few days so not much time for photos. Thanks for all of the comments for yesterdays abstract post. Rick and Jeanne (BrickRoad) were right on the mark - it is a photo of a section of my floor where parquet tiles were removed due to water damage from a pipe break. Need to take up the entire floor and replace. Gail - thanks for the idea of saving as an overlay. I took several different photos and it could be very interesting to play with that idea.

Day 019: Alphabet challenge-Letter A - January 19. This is a section of a wooden guard rail on a bridge in the NJ Meadowlands silhouetted by the whiteness of morning fog. I admit to being undecided about participating in this challenge as I have limited time each day to find my photo for the day and I'm not sure that I want to spend it driving around looking for alphabet objects. But here is a start and I'll see how it goes. My commitment to take and post a current photo for each day is my primary objective and that will come first. Have fun everyone with tthis. I'll be looking forward to seeing the results

Day 018: Abstract - January 18. No chance for outside photos yesterday - stuck inside waiting for contractor to arrive and then while he was working. Amused myself by creating a few abstracts today from photos taken of displays while I was out shopping for floor tiles. I think this will be my story for the next week or so.

Day 016: A Fish Tale - January 16. Thanks to all who commented on my skyline fog post yesterday. Today's post is quite different. Decided while on my way home from doing chores yesterday afternoon to stop at a park and have a quick walk. Was surprised to spot a great blue heron standing like a statue in the low tide mud and decided to snap a record photo. He lunged suddenly and brought up a huge fish but then it appeared that he couldn't figure out how to swallow it. He would move it around in his beak, put it back in the water, pick it up to try again. At one point he tried to get the whole fish in his mouth which was impossible. Finally after numerous tries, he let it slip back into the low water and walked a few feet away - totally ignoring it.

Day 015: New York Skyline Sunrise Fog - January 15. An eerie sight this morning at sunrise as fog engulfs the Hudson River and part of the skyline.

Day 014: New York Skyline Sundown - January 14. What a difference a day makes - actually it is a few days since I posted an image of this same section of the NY Skyline with a frozen river. Today it is raining again - all day - but a glimpse of the sunshine on Sunday and Monday was really nice.

Day 013: Mallard Drake - January 13, 2014 So nice to have clear weather yesterday and a chance to get outside for a few photos. In spite of heavy rain on previous days, this pond is still partially frozen over. Thanks for comments on yesterday's abstract post.

Day 012: Abstract - January 12, 2014. Rain, rain and more rain yesterday -- all day. Another day to stay inside toasty and warm and play with some ideas for abstract work. Need to come up with a name for this piece. Thanks for all of the comments on yesterdays post.

Day 011: Dream Dancing - January 11, 2014. A rainy, snowy, slushy day yesterday so it was an inside photo day - perfect time to try for a little creativity. Very heavy rain and fog today so it will be another inside photo day I think. I'm really missing my outdoor time.

Day 010: N.Y. Skyline Sundown - January 10, 2014. Sundown color, river ice and building reflections resulted in a slightly different capture of the skyline than normal.

Day 009: N.Y. Skyline and River Ice - January 9, 2014. Generally, the strong currents from the tidal flows prevent ice from forming in the lower Hudson River. But the exceptionally cold weather is creating challenges for the ferry boats crossing back and forth between NY and NJ as the ice builds up on the surface around the piers. This photo was taken just before noon yesterday.

Day 008: Black and White Abstract - January 8, 2014. A little abstract play yesterday since I was housebound waiting for a service person to arrive. When opening my balcony door on Sunday evening, it came off the track and was stuck in a partially open position. Spent Sunday night, Monday and most of yesterday with very frigid air blowing into the apartment. It is fixed temporarily but I need to have the door removed and reseated in the frame to - hopefully - fix the problem.

Day 007: NYSkyline_Final Night of ChristmasColors - January 7, 2014. The 12th Night of Christmas - and the last night of Christmas colors on the Empire State Building for this holiday season. Photo taken just at nightfall with some sundown color in the sky.

Day 006: Weather Whiteout - January 6, 2014. Looking out my window to my apt alcony yesterday. Rain, fog, smog, on and off sleet created very low visibility for an eerie whiteout effect. Today rain and warm temps but will be back to zero or below zero by tonight.

Day 005: Zinfandel - January 5, 2014. A toast to everyone who participated in the 26 week alphabet challenge - with a nice rich red zinfandel for Z the last letter of the alphabet. .

Day 004: NYSkyline at Sundown - January 4, 2014. Nice to see the sun return in late afternoon yesterday after a snowy, blustery night and morning. The air was crystal clear but much too cold to be outside for more than a quick photo.

Day 003: Snowbound Bicycles - January 3, 2014. A few inches of snow last night here - can't believe how the media and politicians are making it a 'stop the world' event, although to be fair there was much more of an accumulation south, east and north of where I live. Certainly we can't complain compared to what other parts of the country are experiencing. This is a bicycle rack outside of my apartment building early this morning. Thanks to all who posted words of encouragement to continue with my PAD posts. I think I'm just frustrated with myself - I seem to be in a slump and lacking new ideas for places/subjects that are within a short drive of where I live.

Day 001: NY Skyline New Year's Eve - January 1, 2014. Fireworks in Central Park to celebrate the New Year. Haven't yet decided whether or not I am going to continue with PAD but I'm posting this to start while I decide.
