Mating Clear-winged Hummingbird Moths

An amorous pair of clear-winged humminbird moths doing what comes naturally. Hoping to see and photograph butterflies yesterday at a local park, I didn't have any luck finding any but was treated to this display instead. It's the first time that I've even seen one still since they are usually hovering over a flower, sipping nectar with the high speed wings beating faster than the eye can see. There is more than one type North American Hummingbird Moths and I believe that these are Snowberry Clearwing Moth. They are about half the size of a hummingbird.

Wall Art - Beautiful Music Together

Great musical history represented in this image captured at Asbury Park N.J. These two instruments - oh what music they made and what stories they could tell!! The guitar of Bruce Springsteen and the saxophone of Clarence Clemens. This is one of a series of weathered and treasured rock music history images that are displayed on the exterior of the Paramount Theatre. Also one of a series of my photographs to celebrate the architecture and art and music culture of Asbury Park. The actual art displayed is a faded monochrome but reflections from the sun lightly toned the photograph that I took. I liked the colors so enhanced them a bit.

Sundown Sky Drama New York City

Mother Nature put on quite a magnificant show to usher out sudown at the end of a summer storm. What a magical, all too brief, moment in time to have the pleasure to see and photograph.

On The Boardwalk-Asbury Park

In the background here, is a complex of three - the Convention Center over the beach, The Paramount Theatre on the left side and a covered pass through mall in the center. The complex, built in 1930, was designed by architects Warren and Wetmore, who also designed Grand Central Terminal in NYC. The architecture is a combination Italian-French style, beautifully decorated with nautical themed art.

False Sunflowers and Summer Sky

Photographed in the NewJersey Meadowlands. Wild lowers which I believe are False Sunflowers. Heliopsis helianthoides is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, known by the common names rough oxeye,[2] smooth oxeye[3] and false sunflower.[4] It is native to eastern and central North America . The toothed leaf blades are oval to triangular or lance-shaped and may be smooth or hairy or rough in texture. Each head contains yellow ray florets with many yellow to brownish disc florets. They attract a variety of butterflies, bees and birds.

NYC Incoming Storm

Ominous, dark, low, massive storm clouds rolled into the NY City, Hudson River and sourrounding NJ communities yesterday afternoon signalling the thunder and lightining storm that was about to begin. Wow - it was a rough one.

NYC Fireworks-5 Minute Finale

The last of the week-long five minute pop up fireworks shows was the 'grand finale last evening . Clearly conceived to be a spectacle of an ending for the July 4th TV show, it was a fireworks display like never seen before. However, only those watching on television or who had a clear view of the Empire State Building got to enjoy it. For the first time ever, the fireworks were set off from the top pedestal floors of the building. They were not big bursting balls of fireworks and were very contained. For anyone trying to watch live without a clear view of the building,very little of the show could be seen. This was the best that it got.

Macy's 2020 Pop-up Fireworks

A view of two Macy's barges setting off fireworks on the Hudson River as part of a week-long Independecne Day celebration. This year, due to the Covid-19 virus, the fireworks displays are a significant departure from times past. Each day this week, one of these five mminute shows will 'happen' someplace around the city or city boroughs, either on land or water. Location information is not released and they are kept to the five minute limit to avoid people gathring in crowds to see them. The plan for tomorrorw, July 4th, is an unknown. The televised show will be aired with a line up of performers, but with a virtual format and I assume clips from these short displays of the fireworks. Perhaps we will get a surprise and there will be a longer display tomorrow, the 4th, which will be visible from my NJ vantage point.

NYC - Honey-hued Sundown

Honey hued sundown reflections contrasted with layers of blues in the sky and water made this view of midtown Manhattan and the Hudson Riber a sweet visual treat.
