Cape May Lighthouse N.J.

Cape May is an island and peninsula with Cape May Point being the southernmost border area of New Jersey. The land mass juts out into the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay. The Cape May Lighthouse is a state historic site and still functions as a navigation aid. Visitors can climb the 199 step iron spiral stairway to get a view of the ocean and bay.

Surf, Sky and Kite Boarder Cape May NJ

Wonderful to watch this kiteboarder effortlessly and joyfully enjoying his sport on an empty beach just before sundown at Cape May Beach New Jersey. After a cloudy and hazy day, blue skies prevailed and appeared to chase away the heavy cloud cover. After 30 years of living away from N.J., my first daughter moved back at the end of last week. Spent a few day, helping her unpack and get settled but we also had a lot of play time exploring her new surroundings in southern N.J. .

A perfect blue sky late Spring day and a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the weather just as the start of the summer season begins. Lake Lenape is located in May's Landing in Atlantic County, New Jersey.

Presby Memorial Iris Garden N.J.

Tall Bearded Iris Wasatch

Our N.J. Presby Memorial Iris Garden is in bloom. This iris is a historic tall bearded iris named Wasatch, photographed at the gardens in Montclair N.J. This iris variety was developed i the mid 1930s by hybridizer Thorupa and is described as a white plicata patterned .iris r with a blue and purple stitch and a yellow beard.

Hudson Yards Towers NYC at Sundown

A sundown view of the Hudson Yard Project towers at the height of sundown color reflected on the structures. Still under construction, the massive project has completely transformed the face of the Manhattan skyline and this is still only the first phase of the project. This current view shows that installation of the cladding on several of the high rise buildings is progressing well . and my hope is that there will be a crane-free view for a while once this external work is completed. Looking at the second tower from the right, there is a pink colored spire showing above the building. That is the spire of the Empire State Building that for decades has been the dominant building of the skyline and created the world famous, beloved view of the city from across the New Jersey waterfront. On the left, note how small the Chrysler building, once another dominant building of the skyline, looks compared to the new construction.

Pink Swamp Rose

Least Sandpipers Taking the Sun

A small gathering of Least Sandpipers that flew in as I watched and settled themselves on top of this ancient tree trunk to enjoy a break as they make a stop along their migration route to rest, feed and gain strength. They were part of a larger flock (fling) that split up and chose different tree trunks and logs to rest on in the low tide marsh waters. The New Jersey Meadowlands are a convenient place for the migratory wading/water birds to stop as the area is along the Atlantic flyway. migration route.

Tree Swallow Portrait

A male Tree Swallow standing atop a nest box in all of his iridescent blue glory waiting for the female to appear. Swallow nest boxes all around the NJ Meadowlands parks are fully occupied it seems, mostly with the tree swallows that they are intended for but a few are housing sparrow pairs.

Pink Dogwood Flowers fully opened and beautiful against a pale blue , cloudy day sky. There are numerous species of dogwood trees in North America, some native and some introduced because they were/are more disease resistant than the native varieties The four most common types are native flowering dogwoods, Pacific dogwood, Cornelian cherry dogwood, and Kousa dogwoods. The first two are native varieties. The Pacific dogwood is primarily West coast and does not do well on the East coast of the USA.

NYC Sundown Sailing on the Hudson

There is something so very cheerful and energizing about seeing the first burst of boaters out on the Hudson River after the end of a long winter, espeially this winter of Covid restrictions and isolation. Normally by this time of year, the river would be bustling with constant ferry boat crossings, recreatioal boaters, dinner cruise boats and cruise ships arriving and departing from the cruise ship piers. Most of that activity is still not happening but it was delightful to see these sail boats dipping and dancing in the breeze at the start of the sundown golden hour..
