Autumn Season Sundown Rainbow NYC

An awesome display of color and light put on by Mother Natuer over the New York Skyline a few days ago. A short rain shower to the East with heavy storm clouds obscured a section of the skyline and produced a rainbow as it cleared through just at the height of the sundown hour. The combination brought intense color to the clouds whch was reflected in the buiodings and Hudson River. The entire display from start to fiish lasted less than 10 minuts but it was quite an amazing sight. .

After days and days of clouds, rainy weather and misty gray blue skies, it was a surprise to see this display of sienna colors kiss the skyline buiildings as a storm cleaned at sundown. You can see the heavy moisture just hanging in the air. . It was a startline, short glimpse of color.

Headed outside after a heavy thunder and lightning storm began to clear hoping for a rainbow photograph. The rainbow didn't happen but eventually this sundown color made the entire skyline look like a rainbow .

Hudson Yards Towers NYC at Sundown

A sundown view of the Hudson Yard Project towers at the height of sundown color reflected on the structures. Still under construction, the massive project has completely transformed the face of the Manhattan skyline and this is still only the first phase of the project. This current view shows that installation of the cladding on several of the high rise buildings is progressing well . and my hope is that there will be a crane-free view for a while once this external work is completed. Looking at the second tower from the right, there is a pink colored spire showing abovet the building. That is the spire of the Empire State Building that for decades has been the dominant building of the skyline and created the world famous, beloved view of the city from across the New Jersey waterfront. On the left, note how small the Chrysler building, once another dominant builing of the skyline, looks compared to the new construction.

NYC Sundown Sailing

There is something so very cheerful and energizing about seeing the first burst of boaters out on the Hudson River after the end of a long winter, espeially this winter of Covid restrictions and isolation. Normally by this time of year, the river would be bustling with constant ferry boat crossings, recreatioal boaters, dinner cruise boats and cruise ships arriving and departing from the cruise ship piers. Most of that activity is still not happening but it was delightful to see these sail boats dipping and dancing in the breeze at the start of the sundown golden hour..

Hudson Yards NYC Sundown Light

A vertical format view of the skyscrapers of the Hudson Yards area of midtown Manhattan at sundown. At the center of the compound, is a public space where the Vessel is located and can be clearly seen in this image. Vessel is a 150-foot-tall structure of connected staircases, the height of 16 stories. It has 80 landings, 2,500 steps and 154 flights. The total length of the 'hike' up the stairs is a little more than one mile. Ramps and an elevator are available for those who cannot climb the stairs. At the top of the tallest building, the "Edge" - a open air, glass-sided platform is located on the 100th floor. At 1,100 feet it is the highest viewing platform in the Western Hemisphere. The NYC High Line Park can be accessed on the south side of Hudson Yards where one can then walk along the elevated railway line park southward through Chelsea and other west side areas. Aternately,one could walk Eastward to find the Macy's flagship 34th street store and the nearby Empire State Building.

NYC A Sublime Summer Sundown

A strange ranbow after a thunderstorm over the New York metropolitan area. Started very faintly just above the Hudson River, then rose slowly picking up more color. It quckly began fading in color just after this shot and rose only slightly higher before it disappeared.

New York-Light after the Storm
