Okame Cherry Blossom Branch

A colorful, yet delicate looking branch of newly opened Okame pink cherry blossoms framed against green grass at New Jersey's Branch Brook Park. This ornamental cherry tree is one of the first to bloom in the Spring and is a lovely sight with deep pink flowers and red centers that bloom in clusters of 2-5. The deciduous tree boasts beautiful orange red leaves in the fall. At maturity, it can attain a height of 20-30 feet. Branch Brook Park Cherry Blossom Scene. It's hard to believe when walking through the paths around these beautiful blooming ornamental cherry trees that the idylic scene is only short blocks away from busy city streets. Branch Brook Park is the nature jewel of Newark N.J. and it is at its most beautiful in early spring when the more than 5,000 flowering trees are in peak bloom. Here by Branch Brook Park Lake, it is the end of the bloom display time with blossoms dropping and the trees beginning to leaf out with green leaves replacing the lovely flowers. On this monring, pink and white blossoms contrast with green hedging and a blue sky with floating white clouds as a storm brews to the south that will blow in and take down the last of the blossoms when it arrives.

Symmetry in Spring Glory

On face value, the symmetry of composiiton caught my attention with the curvature of the cherry blossoms repeated in the trees behind and again in the clouds above. More striking for me though was the symmetry of symbolism. The lovely blossoms in many areas are the first tree blossoms to open and some of the first indication of the beauty and reproductive importance of the season. The greening trees and grass are a reminder of the rebirth and renewal of the earth. The venerable cathedral represents the spiritual renewal that so many cultures and religions treasure and celebrate at this time of year.
