Fleet Week Ship Parade 2012
Fleet Week in the New York area got off to a rousing start this year with a grand parade of tall ships and military vessels up and back down the Hudson River, along with New York Police and Fire Boats and flybys by the Blue Angels. It was quite a spectacular sight to see the tall ships from various countries and the military ships from the U.S. and Canada with their crews standing at attention as they passed. The tall ships were in the forefront of the parade sailing north up the Hudson, passing the Intrepid Museum. They were greeted by the NY City fireboat and continued up to the GW Bridge where they turned around and headed back down the river to meet the military vessels as they arrived at the Intrepid. Unfortunately the weather was not cooperative in terms of getting photographs of this event. The skies were cloudy, misty and foggy as the tall ship flotilla moved up the Hudson painting everything in white and light gray. The sun tried to break through late in the morning as the USCGC Eagle led the military ships up the Hudson. But a short time later, skies clouded over once again and it became so dark that those late photos appear to be black and white photos. In any case, I have posted a few of the images for the sake of documenting the event and hope that you enjoy viewing them. These images have not been posted for sale, however if you are interested in purchasing a print of one of the photos, please contact me at geoghartart@live.com to make arrangements.
