Sunflowers 2016
A collection of sunflower images taken at several different farms in northern New Jersey. Please stop back again - more to come. Also scroll through the galleries to find sunflower images from previous years. The sunflower fields in NJ began to show up in 2011 as farmer's and the NJ Audubon formed a coop of sorts to raise sunflowers to produce locally grown black-oil sunflower seed that could be sold fresh in New Jersey. Part of the agreement was that the participating farms would maintain a section of native grasslands for migrating birds and pollinators. The colorful fields drew the attention of the public and now they have become a popular tourism and educational part of NJ agriculture. While several of the arms still participate in the NJ Audubon S.A.V.E. program, others have splintered off and grow the sunflower crops independently. Either way, the sunflower seeds produced are available at local farm markets as well as sunflower oil which is a new product this year. #DonaldsonFarmsSunflowers, #LibertyFarms, #NJ Sunflower Maze, #BrodheckerFarms,
