Sunflowers NJ 2013
New Jersey Sunflowers 2013: Once again the sunflower fields across New Jersey are blooming much to the delight of those who live close enough to view them or who have learned about them and travel to see the glorious golden show that they provide. This is the fourth year that I have photographed the sunflowers and posted a portfolio of the photos. I do this for two reasons. One is that I absolutely delight in seeing them and photographing them. The second is that it is my way to try to bring attention to the coalition of N.J. farmers and N.J. Audubon who came together with the objective of increasing sustainable agriculture in N.J. and also to provide and protect habitat for New Jersey birds and other wildlife in a state that is rapidly seeing farmland and habitat being converted into developed housing and business landscapes. The farmers plant and nurture the sunflower fields, harvest the crops and the black oil sunflower seeds are then packaged and sold for birdfood under the S.A.V.E. brand by N.J. Audubon and other NJ sources. To learn more about this program, visit the N.J. Audubon website. My photos from this year were primarly taken at the Sussex County Sunflower maze field in Augusta, N.J. where one can walk through the maze and simply enjoy the flowers and the bees and butterflies. If you are a sunflower lover, select your favorite and click the buy button to view the print sizes and merchandise that you can order. The photos make wonderful gift products such as mugs and mousepads or puzzles.
