Coneflower and Bumble Bee Pollinator
Echinacea, or coneflower, s a genus, or group of herbaceous flowering plants in the daisy family. The Echinacea genus has nine species, which are commonly called purple coneflowers. They are natthe USA and found primarily in eastern and central North America.The common name comes from the characteristic center cone shape at the center of the flower head. The plants are grown as ornamental flowers and are also used for medicinal purposes. They are faviorites of wildlife and bees and butterflies can often be seen in the summer gathering the yellow pollen from the flower heads. Bumblebees, like oneybees, feed on nectar, using their long hairy tongues to lap up the liquid. The nectar is added to the stores in the nest and pollen is used to feed their young.
