It was an exceptionally lovely scene when he swam where autumn leave colors were reflected in the water.

Although Mandarin ducks are not typical visitors to the USA, this drake has found his way to the waters of the park and made himself at home. What a joy to see the beautiful bird and have the change to take photographs of him. This is one is a collection of images of him taken as he swam from spot to spot and stopped to preen or feed. Each makes a fine stand alone art print for your wall or there are many choices to mix and match for a wall grouping.

This is one os a collection of photographs of this handsome drake that I was lucky enough to capture as he swam around the pond, in and out of the shadows and shrubbery. The mandarin duck (Aix galericuleta) is a perching duck species native to East Asia and primarily found there. Closely related to the North American Wood Duck, they are the only two members of genue Aix This duck is widely considered to be the most colorful duck in the world with it multi-colored rainbow plumage hues. Males and females have crests but the it is more pronounced in the male. Two orange 'sails" at the back of the duck make it instantly recognizable along with the purple breast and white eye ring. The mandarin is a medium sized duck, smaller than the wood duck and the more common adult mallard. Mandarins are rarely seen in the USA other than in captivity or in small flocks in CA and WA. This beauty has been visiting Central Park in NYC and seems to have made himself quite at home there.

The mandarin duck (Aix galericulata) is a perching duck species native to East Asia and primarily found there. This mandarin has been stayin in Central Park with a flock of mallard ducks and canada geese and seems to be at home there. Here, he was a bit tuckered out after feeding and seimming around to show off for visitors and shortly after this photo he headed across the pond to shelter and nap in the shade.
