Liberty State Park-Emigrant Waiting Room

This section of the old ferry piers was once an Emigrant wiaitng room where those released from Ellis Island to come into the U.S.A. waited to board CRRNJ trains to theiir destination. The Emigrant waiting room was kept separate from the main waiting hall used by commuters. The area, originally enclosed, is now an open space and remnanats of the original room can be seen. Two placards mark the spot with descriptions of the waiting room and of the Ellis Island Triology connection of the railroad, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The skyline of lower Manhattan and One World Trade Center is in the background across the lower Hudson Rive. r
