Beautiful blues, pinks, golds and yellows fill the sky in this display of sundown color as they begin to be overtaken by the deep blues of the twilight hour. Below, lights are beginning to pop on and deep shadows setting in among the rooftops and skyscrapers of a section of Jersey City N.J. with a blue strip of New York Harbor waters behind. New York Harbor is at the mouth of the Hudson River where it empties into New York Bay and then into the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast of the United States. It is one of the largest natural harbors in the world.

Cloudy Day Sundown Surprise NYC

This Mallard duck pair was sticking very close together, having apparently already formed a strong bond in preparation for the mating season. Warm afternoon sunlight brought out the detail and colors of their plumage. .

NYC Red Sunrise Finale

The last glmpses of red, gold and yellow in the sky over midtown Manhattan as the sun shows its face over the skyscraper horizon. Only moments before the sky was filled with a blazing display of streaked flame colored clouds. Then, minutes after this, clouds moved in again, the sun retreated behind them and the scene turned to cloudy greys. For a short ime though - oh what a sight it was to see these colors fill the sky and paint the Hudson River in amazing color.

Red Sunrise Skies over Manhattan

What a glorious moment in time to see this sunrise display in the skies over New York City. It came and went so quickly that it was hard to believe it really happened. Within minutes the clouds had blown past and when the sun appeared over the horizon, it was a totally different scene. Will post that one tomorrow. Within minutes after the sun appeared, the color disappeared as did the sun when more cloud cover came in and it was dreary and grey for the remainder of the day.

NYC - The Joy of a New Day

A sunrise view of the skyscrapers of midtown Manhattan just after dawn and before the sun reaches above the skyline horizon. Streaks of orange, gold and yellow color light up the sky topped by the emerging blue skies of daytime which are reflected in the Hudson River. To get a sense of place, the two matching smaller towers are the towers of the Time Warner complex at Columbus Circle. The tallest tower is the newly built Central Park Tower, a luxury residential apartment building. It is the tallest residential apartment bilding in the world and the second highest building in NYC at 1,550 feet. The tall tower to the right of it is the Steinway Tower, another newly constructed luxury residential building. The tower is built atop the famed, landmarked Steinway Hall. According to information provided, it is the most slender residential building in the world. Along the waterfront, just left of the center of the frame is the Intrepid Air and Space Museum.
