GW Bridge American Flag and Autumn Foliage
A vertical format view of a section of the New Jersey tower of the George Washington Bridge and the largest free-flying American Flag as it barely waves on a breezelss Veteran's Day. This unusual perspective shows fall foliage in the foregroun. This American Flag, the largest free-flying flag in the world, measures 90 feet long and 60 feet wide and weighs 450 pounds. The stripes are approximately 5 feet wide and the stars about four feet in diameter. Weather permitting, the flag is flown from the George Washington Bridge tower on national holidays such as Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Matrin Luther King Jr. Day and Veterans Day. The tradition of hanging the flag began in 1947 on Veteran's Day in honor of WWII troops. To view more American Flag or USA patriotic images, please visit my Celebration America gallery.
