Shorebird Migration-DeKorte Park NJ : Migrating shorebirds and wading birds enjoy the lower water levels at the shorebird pool in Richard W. DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst, N.J. Shorebirds have begun their migration to winter grounds and this pool provides critical food for the birds to stop over and gain weight in order to continue their journey. During late August and early September there were opportunities to view semi-palmated and other sandpipers, ruddy turnstones, lesser and greater yellowlegs, shortbilled dowitchers and other shorebirds - 2010 and 2011. There were also many wading birds - snowy and great egrets and great blue herons to be seen. For a full report of the birds being sighted, go to Meadowblog.net. Tree Swallows : The Tree Swallows at DeKorte Park are great fun to watch as they prepare to nest in the boxes provided at DeKorte Park in the NJ Meadowlands. Most images in this gallery were taken when the swallows landed on a wooden railing going to and from the next boxes. The colors on these little beauties are just stunning as their iridescent feathers shimmer in the sunlight.

Birdbath Bathing Beauties : DeKorte Park - Lyndhurst NJ. Cedar Waxwing, Goldfinch, Red-Winged Blackbird and others all gather at their local watering spot on hot summer days to cool off and refresh. What a joy to spend a few hours watching and photographing.
