Day 286: NY Skyline Sunrise - Oct 12. Sunrise over Manhattan. It is getting to one of the few times during a year where the sunrise is within the frame along with the Chrysler Building and soon the Empire State Building from my vantage point. So I'm looking forward over the next two months to getting lots of sunrise photos. Camera settings to keep sunflare effect as that is how my eye saw it.

Day 290: Yellow Dahlia - Oct 16. Discovered this lone lemon yellow dahlia while out in the neighborhood for a walk. It was huge - as big as a saucer and the plant was over 4 feet tall.

Day 288: NY Skyline Liberty State Park - Oct 14. Today I am posting 2 images from a visit to Liberty State Park. I've had several questions about where to take skyline photos from. Since several folks have said that they are planning to visit NY, here is a list of the best places to get skyline views from New Jersey. The most well known spot for skyline views is Weehawkin NJ. If you are staying in NYC, take the #166 bus from Port Authority to Weehawkin Blvd East. Get off at Hamilton Park for spectacular views. Alternately, one could take the ferry from the NY Waterway Ferry Terminal in NY to Lincoln Harbor. You need to buy round trip tickets at the NY terminal since there is no place to purchase tickets on the NJ side. At Lincoln Harbor there is a waterfront walkway that affords straight on views of midtown Mahnattan. Also, one could take the Path Train to Hoboken NJ and walk along the waterfront there for views of midtown and also to get images of lower Manhattan From Hoboken, you can also get the light rail train to north Lincoln Harbor or south to the Newport area of Jersey City or further south to LIberty State Park where a shuttle bus is available to transport you to the waterfront. Also from Liberty State Park, you can get river trips to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
In my view, late afternoon, sundown and twilight times are the best for getting photos of the skyline from NJ - other than sunrise

Day 287: NY Skyline Sundown - Oct 13. One of those times when the sundown light on sections of the NY skyline was just magical in the colors that painted the buildings. The two matching towers are the Time Warner Center towers located near the SW corner of Central Park. The tallest building with the crane atop is touted as the tallest residential building in NYC at 1003 feet. It will soon be surpassed by a building on Park Avenue which will be over 1300 feet high. Clearly new construction is alive and well in NYC.

Day 285: NJ Meadowlands - Oct 11. It was a treat to see sun and blue skies yesterday after days of rain and gloomy weather. Late afternoon sun in the NJ Meadowlands showed a hint of the fall foliage color transformation to come. It will probably be two weeks before the colors fully emerge in this part of NJ.

Day 283: Chrysanthemums for Sale - Oct 9. This table full of pots of chrysanthemums for sale at a farm stand caught my eye yesterfay.
